When your dog is incessantly licking their feet, they are telling you that they are having an issue. Typically they will do this because they are very itchy.

Why are they itchy? Either inflammation or infection, and frequently it's both. Allergies, whether from the environment or the food, are commonly to blame.

Obviously treating the underlying cause is the best way to stop the licking, but what do you do in the meantime?

If your dog has a lot of hair on the bottoms of their feet you can trim that. If your dog goes to the groomer have them do that.

Once the hair is shortened, you can try rinsing the feet daily in a few inches of cold water in the tub. Have them walk around for a few minutes then pat dry.

This is just a basic home therapy you can try but it can make your dog more comfortable with itchy feet.
